What’s the status of commercial development in Flowood?
The US Census Bureau shows the population of the Jackson Metropolitan Area to be just over 560,000 people. While Flowood, is one of its smaller suburbs, its proximity to the airport, highly desirable retail and office areas as well as its many nearby upscale neighborhoods, make it the center of significant commercial development lately.
Construction is currently under way for Waterpointe, a Traditional Neighborhood Development (or TND) coming to Flowood. This major project, located just south of Dogwood Festival Shopping Center, on the East Metro Parkway, will be comprised of 230 acres and 800,000 square feet of commercial space. Beyond that, Waterpointe will be home to 560 residences, all part of this commercial development.
With its town square concept and waterfront, Waterpointe will have shopping and a restaurant district with waterfront dining. Future work will bring to life a pool, bike trails, walking paths and an event area.
Estimates how that the community will have an estimated economic impact of $250 million in construction activity. The total development cost is anticipated to reach almost a half billion dollars.
Flowood Conference Center
A $50 million commercial development is bringing a new conference center to the Flowood – Airport Road area. The Flowood Conference Center will feature a 200 room luxury Sheraton Hotel and over 50,000 square feet of conference center space. The City will own the Conference Center, which will be operated by MCC Real Estate, a New Orleans development company.
The hotel will have a resort style pool and a 15-acre lake. The spacious resort property will include walking paths and an event lawn that will be able to host outdoor weddings and other events. The property will also have a full spa and culinary school.
Hotel dining options will include white tablecloth options and a lounge that overlooks the lake and adjacent Refuge Golf Course, which has received extensive upgrades.
The addition of Office Evolution to the Flowood commercial landscape will offer private offices and coworking, as well as business support services that enable entrepreneurs and other professionals to grow their business as efficiently as possible. Office Evolution will be located in the 10 Canebrake Building, a white three-story Class A Office Space, located just in front of the Flowood Conference Center.
