Seemingly Counterintuitive Ways to Accomplish More in Your Workday

Getting more accomplished within each workday is something we all like the sound of. Whether you currently have too many tasks to manage or simply want to be more intentional about the way you work, becoming more efficient is the key to unlocking more time—but how can you do that?

There are plenty of obvious productivity tips out there: Set up your desk in a functional way, avoid unnecessary distractions and so on. However, there are also quite a few that may seem counterintuitive but can actually be quite effective.

Today, we will take a look at some productivity tips that seem too crazy to work…and then tell you exactly why they do!

Effective Productivity Tips That May Seem Counterintuitive

Avoid the temptation to multitask. Multitasking used to be the hottest buzzword in office productivity lingo, but in recent years, we have learned that it is not all it is made out to be. When we multitask, we are often less productive than we would be if we focused on any one thing, and are also more prone to mistakes—which can lead to double the work. Instead of multitasking, give each task in your day your full attention and you will likely find that you are able to complete it more effectively.

Keep your meetings brief. While meetings are sometimes necessary to convey important information, blocking a meeting for a 30-minute or one-hour block of time is often not required—but when the time is blocked off, people may feel the need to fill that space anyway. If you have the power to control your own meeting times, consider scheduling them in 15- or 45-minute increments instead and see if that is sufficient for what you need to communicate.

Schedule breaks for yourself. Taking regular breaks is an important part of keeping your brain engaged throughout the workday, but for most people, if they are not scheduled, they will not happen. Give yourself a few slots on your calendar to get up and walk around throughout the day so you can be certain you are prioritizing them.
