Metro to Close 2 More Stations on Weekends Temporarily

Northern Virginia will be down two Metro stations on the weekends for a few months. The Blue Line stations Franconia-Springfield (Springfield) and Van Dorn Street (Alexandria) need repairs for their control system. This work will benefit the Alexandria Rail Yard’s system which is in desperate need of upgrades from it’s 40 year system.

The repairs will keep both of the Blue Line stations closed on the weekends until March 14th, with a few exceptions. Inauguration (January 16th), President’s Day weekend (February 13-15), and Wreaths Across America (December 19) will be the weekends that these Blue Line stations will remain open.

There will be a few other times that these stations will be closed besides the weekends. During the weeks of Christmas and New Year’s both of these stations will be closed, which will be from December 20th-January 2nd.

As an alternative, local and express shuttle buses will be available for free to transport people from Huntington to Largo Town Center. The Yellow Line train service will also serve as an alternative for travel between Virginia and Washington D.C. The Van Dorn Street station bus loop will remain open during these times for bus passengers.
