“We are excited for people to see the result of the years of work it required to bring this playing experience home to Flowood,” said Mayor Gary Rhoads. “We utilized the expertise of the number one golf management company and they have exceeded our expectations. Our Board of Alderman and city leaders have worked very hard to accomplish the goal of providing an elite experience at an affordable rate accessible to our Flowood citizens. This course will bring people from all over to see what Flowood has to offer.”

The daily-fee/resort course underwent an 18-hole course renovation under the direction of golf course architect, Nathan Crace, which included a new irrigation system, tree removal, new cart paths and re-grassing. The result is a more open course that is routed through stands of towering pines and centuries-old oaks, while preserving the natural habitat and wildlife found throughout the property. The course has multiple tees ranging from 4,439 yards to 7,013 yards and is suitable for players of every skill level from beginner to professional.

The Refuge will be operated by Troon’s Honours Golf division, and managed by Head Golf Professional, Blake Hatfield. Hatfield is a graduate of Mississippi State University’s PGA Golf Management Program. His most recent experience was as Head Golf Professional at Fallen Oak Golf Course in Biloxi, MS. Hatfield recently won the Merchandiser of the Year award for the Gulf States PGA section in 2020. Hatfield has opened his office and a well-stocked Pro Shop.

A 19th Hole food and beverage venue is in the final stages of preparation to open. To accommodate golfers beginning April 19th, local restaurateur and Table 100 owner, Bill Latham, will provide beverages and food until the opening of restaurant.

The Refuge will open to the public on Monday, April 19th, with tee times beginning at 8 AM. The Pro Shop hours are from 7 AM until dusk daily. For more information on The Refuge Golf Course and to reserve your tee time on opening day, visit refugegolfms.com.
