Office Evolution Hosts Young Business Group

Office Evolution’s latest location in Ogden, Utah has finally opened its doors and ushered in a buzz of youthful excitement. Ogden is a small but thriving community, rife with young entrepreneurs looking to dip their toes in with the town’s established businesses, while forging new paths entirely unique to their generation.

On Thursday, September 10th, a group of these entrepreneurs, Ogden Young Professionals, held a monthly mixer in Office Evolution’s newest Business Center. The gathering marked the first event hosted by the virtual office and executive suites company that opened on Historic 25th Street in early September, and it couldn’t have been a more fitting inauguration.

The Office Evolution building, a structure dating back to the 1800s, has housed various businesses throughout the years, including a 7-UP factory and a cobbler’s shop. The local OE franchise owners, Mark and Tammy Smith, have not only embraced the building’s rich history and included it in the architecture, but they’ve also managed to modernize it in ways that a new generation of entrepreneurs can appreciate. Repurposed antique doors and exposed brick mingle with modern office amenities to create an environment both welcoming and professional, making it a perfect meeting spot for Ogden Young Professionals.

“The space is beautifully restored,” said OYP’s president, Kim Bawsher. “Any start up entrepreneur would be instantly legitimized by the space alone. Inviting potential clients in for meetings in this setting immediately gives the air of professionalism.”

After touring the facilities, Kim kicked off the meeting. Getting off the ground is difficult in any field, and OYP offers its members firsthand information, advice, and support.  Each of the members in attendance expressed what they hoped to gain from the group. Their various professions run the gamut from skincare to skateboards, but invariably, their goals are the same: networking, community, and helping to grow Ogden.

Despite their various paths, something that many local business owners have in common is a deep appreciation for Ogden’s history and unique spirit. Not surprisingly, members of the OYP expressed the same enthusiasm for the town, and for preserving the undeniable charm of Historic 25th Street. The group engages in community projects to help promote this cause, including their recent interactive art exhibit, “What if Ogden…”

The meeting closed with an exchange of Instagram accounts rather than business cards, and an open call for inappropriate workplace stories. The stories will be compiled for a theatrical series entitled “Women in the Workplace,” and be performed in the spirit of “The Vagina Monologues.”
