Whether you work in-person or have a hybrid workplace, it is no secret that good work culture and good morale yield high productivity. Many benefits come with working remotely, but some remote workers will report feeling that they’re lacking a sense of belonging.
Improving the connections throughout an organization and the social bonds between colleagues is more critical than ever, and we’ll break down how to accomplish this in three simple ways.
1. Open communication. Creating a work culture of open communication is as simple as creating a channel where every employee can feel comfortable asking honest questions or expressing concern to leadership. This will establish a sense of comfort when speaking up during meetings and collaborations or asking questions. Beyond that, have managers organize one-on-one check-ins with employees to ensure each has a strong sense of value and trust in the eyes of managers and colleagues.
2. Establish employee recognition programs. Everyone in the company, from entry-level employees to executives, should be allowed the opportunity to recognize and celebrate others’ contributions. Assurance that hard work is noticed and appreciated is one of the easiest ways to boost employee morale. Allow your employees to nominate others to be recognized for their achievements and send emails or other tokens of appreciation that publicly recognize good performance.
3. Prioritize employee mental health. Since the pandemic began, stress and anxiety levels in the personal and professional lives of employees have been high. Ensure that your remote employees know how and when to unplug from work, saving them from burnout. Encourage your employees to take some time off, even if it’s not a planned vacation. Remind management and colleagues to respect and honor each other’s time off. Flexible work hours, regular breaks throughout the workday and additional paid time off are all great ways of prioritizing the mental health of employees.
Boosting team morale is key to an organization’s health and longevity. Ultimately, things like policies, career growth, and learning and development are going to cultivate the highest morale. But these things can be accompanied by smaller efforts such as employee recognition and social events.
