Tell us about your business.
Leaders are busy running a business. They are navigating tough challenges such as siloed work, overwhelmed managers, and disengaged employees. I am their people partner, taking talented teams to even higher performance and guiding capable leaders to their full potential through a unique blend of consulting, training and coaching services. I bring firsthand experience leading businesses and teams for 25 years in Fortune 100 companies. And I combine that with extensive training in coaching, assessments, and leadership models.
Why did you choose your profession?
There are two main reasons I chose this career. First, I am a learner by nature. I love to grow and learn new ideas which I can apply in my life and teach to others. And second, I have experienced the transformative power of coaching and training in my own life. My work allows me to combine that knack for learning with my deep belief in the power of coaching and training. When I put that together, I get to help people reach their goals. What could be better than that?
What is the best career advice you have received?
Treat your job as a paid internship. That got me thinking about the benefits of an internship:
- Interns often get to work on exciting projects.
- They have access to the most senior leaders in an organization.
- They have fun experiences.
- And in the end, they can decide whether this is the work that they want to do in the future.
It gave me such a different perspective on work when I saw it through this lens. I thought about the exciting projects that I wanted to work on. I was bold about engaging with senior leaders. I created fun. I was less attached to whether this was the perfect role and instead looked for ways to make it perfect for me. It allowed me to approach work with much more creativity and agency.
How has OE helped your business?
I joined OE a year ago to have access to reliable WiFi and a training space. I host regular workshops and the training space has been a huge enabler to that work. I was previously renting hotel event spaces for these workshops but they were big and expensive. The Oceanside Training Room is the perfect size, and the tech is flawless. Not to mention that the member price allows me to host more events.
What might we find you doing on a day off?
I have a 12-year-old and a 15-year-old so I describe this as the chef and chauffeur season of parenting. Most of my days off are spent taking them to various activities and cheering them on! When we have a rare day at home, I like to watch cooking shows, play cards with the family, or curl up with a good book.
What is your favorite book? Favorite author?
I love Dare to Lead by Brené Brown. When I first started leading teams, I saw one style of leadership modeled all around me. Leaders made the decisions, set the direction and told others what needed to be done. That style just didn’t work for me. So, when I found Brené’s work, I discovered language and research for a different approach. It was instrumental in my development as a leader. I’ve been such a fan of her work for years and was honored to be personally trained by Brené as a Certified Dare to Lead Facilitator. Now I get to bring these tools and research to leaders all over the world.
