MSNVA’s MISSION:

When the coronavirus pandemic hit our area, our community physicians in various medical fields were faced with shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE). Moreover, the nationwide shortage of PPE has affected community physicians in disproportionate ways, since hospitals and big health systems have gotten priority for purchasing.

As of mid-March of this year, due to the current state of emergency from the rapid spread of COVID-19, the MSNVA team has redirected its efforts to collect and secure protective medical equipment for community physicians in Northern Virginia, regardless of membership status.

MSNVA coordinated the collection of PPEs with the Office Evolution Tysons staff Silvia Ferguson – Business Center Manager, and John Yu – franchise owner of Office Evolution Tysons. Office Evolution served as the drop-off and pick-up location of PPEs.

Through this PPE drive, MSNVA has been able to secure several donations from local companies. Moreover, the MSNVA staff developed a prototype for a reusable/cleanable face shields which are now manufactured in bulk to protect the health care professionals.  To date, the team has delivered nearly five thousand respirator masks and more than fifteen hundred face shields, and their hard work continues as long as there is need.

The Medical Society of Northern Virginia is a not-for-profit association founded in 1884 serving physicians who live, practice, and have hospital privileges in the Northern Virginia area. MSNVA’s mission is to advocate for the physician community through: Education, business resources, advocacy efforts to protect the practice of medicine and protect the patient/physician relationship.  MSNVA has over 1,600 members and delivers business service solutions, focusing on independent/small practices.  In addition, the MSNA Foundation support several programs that provide charity care, physician wellness and scholarships for fourth-year rising medical students.
