New Metro Schedule Gives Reason for More Productive Work in Burbs

The Washington D.C. Metro, in response to the recent deficit in their budget, is proposing to cut train hours on weekdays, to reduce the number of trains running during rush hours as well as implementing a fee for bus fares once again. Ridership on bus and train routes is down 88% compared to pre-Covid 19 levels. With schools continuing virtual learning and many companies requiring employees to work from home, it is not anticipated that these numbers will change anytime soon.

Rail lines plan to close two hours earlier during the week, moving from 11:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The trains will also run less frequently as wait times will increase from 8 minutes between trains to 12 minutes. Also, some lines will not travel the full length of the metro line, but, instead, will turn back during busier hours to service higher traffic areas. Metro officials said they also plan to push back Phase 2 of the silver line to Dulles Airport until July of next year.

These proposals will be voted on this October and implemented, if approved, in January of 2021.

Changes to the Metro system schedule will affect commuters who still rely on the Metro in order to get to work. With more people working from home, and more children, also, who are learning virtually from home, this presents a challenge to all given a sometimes lack of space/privacy in the home. These difficult situations which the Covid-19 lock-downs have brought on have led to an increasing interest among American workers in finding alternative office space options. Many working at-home individuals feel the need to relocate their work environment to an area which is free from household concerns and excessive distractions and are opting to explore the many benefits that a shared office provides.
